Principal's Welcome

Welcome to our newly designed and updated web site. We hope the information provided here gives you a small taste of what Crenshaw Middle School is all about.  Crenshaw Middle School has always enjoyed an excellent reputation in our community and throughout the state of Ohio since it opened in 1972.  In spite of the many changes we have faced recently, I feel very strongly that we have not compromised in the slightest our emphasis on academics and high standards with regard to discipline and behavior.  In addition, this year we have put in place a school wide plan which emphasizes technology, first rate lesson design, and a school motto "BRAVO", which stands for _B_uilding _R_elationships through _A_ctions which _V_alue _O_thers.  Our three teaching teams meet regularly to plan/provide quality instruction and meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of our students and their families.  Our exploratory programs (Art, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Physical Education, and Interscholastic Athletics) provide ample opportunity for our students to excel beyond the realm of "book learning".  And, we continue to offer a wide variety of after school programs essentially free of charge for our students.  I extend to you all an invitation to come into our building, visit, and get a chance to see first hand what Crenshaw Middle School is all about.  Feel free to contact me at any time either by phone (330-454-7717) or by email (grubbs_w@ccsdistrict.org).  Thank you for taking the time to browse our website.

Blood Drive @ Crenshaw Sept 16th from 2-7 PM. All donations will help Crenshaw!

There will be a blood drive at Crenshaw MS on Sept. 16 from 2-7 PM. By giving blood, you will be helping donate funds that will support the educational programs at Crenshaw Middle School. Please contact Mrs. Campbell from Academic Boosters if you have further questions.

Welcome to Crenshaw for the 2010-2011 school year! We are excited to be off to a new start! If you are missing any paperwork, please visit our Important Documents page and you will find copies of the internet release forms, appearance forms, emergency medical and other important documents needed for you to start school. Check out the section under "Student  Orientation Packets" for this information plus information on our counseling program and FAQ about Crenshaw.

Back to School Dates

Orientation for new 7th graders is Thursday, August 19th at 6:00 P.M. at Crenshaw. We look forward to welcoming you to our school and preparing you for the new school year.

 

The first day of school for students is August 25th. 

 

 

Motivating Readers

Looking for some ways to motivate your child to read? 1. Let them see you reading for pleasure! Turn off the TV and read together! Carry a book or magazine with you. 2. Let them hear you talk about reading! If you've read something good, talk about it with your child. Ask your child about what they are reading. 3. Help your child choose good books! Visit the library and browse for what catches your eye!

 

 

Crenshaw Reading Challenge 4: Fiction or Non-Fiction?

Summer Challenge #3: Fiction or Non-Fiction? What do you prefer reading? Why?
Most of us think of reading as part of English or Language Arts class, but there are a lot of great Non-Fiction reading possibilities! In fact, many students have subject area interests or extra-curricular pursuits that make great topics when visiting the library or bookstore for a new read! Some non-fiction topics can also cross over into fiction as there are many fictional stories set in real historical periods that help the

7th Grade Reading Challenge 3: Books to Movies

For reading Challenge 3, think about a movie that you've seen that is based on a book. Read (or reread) the book and then view the movie. What parts of the book translated well to the movie? What parts were different from how you imagined? Was the plot faithful to the book? Why do you think certain changes were made? Discuss whatever intrigues you about the movie and book relationship. Oftentimes, movies totally reinterpret a book using only the characters from the book and then writing a totally new plot (like the newest "Alice in Wonderland"), yet the movie works.
